Music is both performance based and cross-curricular. The Music curriculum compliments Social Studies and Science at all grade levels. In addition, every class participates in singing for an annual Class Mass, and a large-scale performance program. Annual programs include the Advent Program, Lenten Program, and Living Stations of the Cross.
St. Mary School has an active, well-respected choral music program. The school choir is open to students in grades three through eight. The choir sings for the annual Diocesan Choral Festival and monthly Family Masses, First Eucharist, Baccalaureate, and other school and community events.
The school music department also offers, at no additional cost, instrumental music instruction on the standard band and orchestra instruments and acoustic guitar. (Parents generally provide the instrument and purchase a method book.) Instrumental music is available to all students in grades three through eight.
Instrumental and vocal music classes include weekly zero period (7:15 am – 8:00 am) class and lunchtime sectionals. Students receive academic credit for all music classes, both curricular and extra-curricular.
The music department presents two annual recitals to showcase the fine musicianship of our students.
